New Medical Assistant Class for Adults Offered at Career Center – Jackson

The Jackson Area Career Center’s Adult Career Enrichment Program is adding Medical Assistant as a new class to its list of offerings this fall.

Medical Assistant is a comprehensive program that runs over four, 10-week sessions starting October 11 and is followed by a 200-hour, non-paid externship in a medical setting. The training will include lectures, laboratory work, demonstrations, and projects to prepare students with the skills required for successful employment in the health care industry.

The class meets Mondays through Wednesdays from 4:20 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The cost of each session is $1,250 (no charge for the externship), with reduced fees for upfront payments. Also included is certification testing.

Medical assistants perform many different administrative and clinical duties in a variety of health care settings such as medical offices, hospitals, multi-physician groups, or private offices.

Adults who have achieved their high school diploma or passed the basic academic GED test are eligible to enroll in the class. Further tests will be taken for placement purposes.
